As a Surrey wedding photographer, Horsley Towers is one of my favourite venues in the area. This was the second wedding of the year at Horsley Towers and it has so many possibilities for imaginative photographs.

Anna and Jonathan got married at the All Saints Church Ockham before going to the wedding reception at Horsley Towers. Being a winter wedding on the 10th December there wasn’t much time for photos outside so we had to work quickly.  We had a planning session on the week of the wedding and worked out when we needed to get to the venue and how to make most use of the available light.  On the day it all worked out well and although you deviate from plans and have to be flexible it is good to have a plan in the first place.

Photography at Horsley Towers has a lot of possibilities and we started off in the chapel before heading to the cloisters.  In the cloisters we met some of the bridal party for a confetti shot before heading off around the lake. We managed to get the sun setting for the view over the lake with the towers behind.

After the group shots it was reception drinks followed by the meal.  The speeches were long which is great for wedding photography as it gives the opportunity to capture lots of candid shots.  After the speeches, cutting the cake and first dance I stayed until around 10.30 when the couple went outside Horsley Towers with their friends to light lanterns and sparklers.  I will always stay to capture events like this as these fun shots will look great in the album.

These are a few portrait shots taken in Virginia Water of my wife Eralys and her cellist friend Diego Carneiro. The shots will be used for future promotion of their duo.

Samantha and  Johseph got married at the St Mary Magdalen Church Ripley and then went along the road to the Talbot.  The wedding ceremony was at 3 pm in November so we had to be quick with the shots outside.  After the group shots outside the church we spent about 20 minutes taking couple shots at the back of the church before heading to the venue where there was time for a few candid shots outside, a large group shot and throwing of the bouquet before it went dark.

Laura and Chris got married at Mattingley Church with their venue the stunning Farnham Castle, a unique Surrey wedding photography venue.

First built in 1138 by Henri de Blois, grandson of William the Conqueror, Farnham Castle was the home of the influential Bishops of Winchester for over 900 years. The architecture reflects changing styles through the ages, making it one of the most important historical buildings in the south of England.

For the couple shots we went up into the Keep of the castle  before taking a tour of the grounds.  The shoot had my usual variation of close intimate shots, shots showing off the venue and a few off the cuff fun shots .  My style is to usually avoid cheesy shots and there is a fine line between fun and something cheesy.  I believe if the fun originates from the couple then it is part of their personality rather than a contrived shot.

Jayne and James got married in the St Mary and St Nicholas Church in Leatherhead and then went to Horsley Towers for their reception. Jayne and James are friends of Ben and Katherine and I photographed their wedding earlier this year at the Ramster.

Horsley Towers is a majestic gothic manor house Surrey countryside and is one of the best places for wedding photography in Surrey. Architectural visionary William Currie commissioned the designer of the Houses of Parliament, Charles Barry, to build the towers in 1820. The architecture is original and pays homage to a Bavarian Castle in true Victorian Gothic style.  Jayne and James used the Great Hall to have their reception.  For the couple photographs we used the old chapel and cloisters and then we wandered around the lake.  Group photographs were taken around the back and after the speeches we went back outside to do some fun casual shots of the couple and the bridal party running and jumping and messing around followed by the throwing of the bouquet shot as the sun was setting.  It was then back inside to photograph the first dance.

Emma and Matt  had their ceremony in the old library of Wotton House followed by the reception.  In the last couple of years I have photographed 4 times at Wotton House and I have more weddings booked there in 2012.

Wotton House has 13 acres of manicured gardens, two secret grottos and two temples.  The turtle house is a temple set in walled gardens with a pond in the centre.  It has a wonderful stillness about it and I really enjoy taking the couple into this area or sometimes doing family and fun shots.

It was a lovely day for the wedding of Emma and Matt.  We took the couple and group shots after the wedding ceremony but also went out for 10 minutes after the meal and speeches to take some shots by the bridge and the romantic shot above.

Mei and Jason had their wedding reception at the Georgian manor house Theobalds Park.  The wedding was fun as you can see from the few lively shots I included below.  I had worked with the videographer before and we both like to inject some fun into the day, though I still like to capture the romantic shots like the one above.

Ben and Katherine were one of the nicest couples I have photographed.  Ben’s speech at the wedding was very natural, funny and emotional.  They got married at the Ramster Hall in the Surrey Hills near Chiddingford.  Ramster Hall is a very impressive venue with lovely old interiors, a courtyard and surrounding gardens.   Later this year I will be back at the Ramster to photograph George and Emma.

After the wedding ceremony the guests went into the courtyard for drinks and I photographed Ben and Katherine with their vintage car and then we went into the expansive gardens behind the Ramster.  There is a lot to explore in the gardens and we had a good planning session in the venue visit before the wedding day.
